Životný príbeh jednej z najznámejších maďarských výtvarných umelkýň, ktorá prežila väčšinu života na Indickom poloostrove.

Tanečné predstavenie Chitrakari vychádza z práce indickej maliarky maďarského pôvodu. Maľby Elisabhet Brunner založené na tanci a jednotlivých tanečných prvkoch rozprávajú maliarkin životný príbeh až do momentu, keď bola Elisabeth Brunner uväznená.

Elisabeth (1910 – 2001) prichádza v roku 1930 spolu so svojou matkou do Indie, kde sa hneď začlenia do zhonu a ruchu tamojšej dobovej indickej výtvarnej a intelektuálnej scény. Hudba, tanec, literatúra a výtvarné umenie – všetky tieto umelecké druhy – tak staré, ako aj súčasné sa vďaka silným a enormným asimilačným tlakom a dlhej tradícii indického umenia takmer vždy prispôsobia domácim indickým vzorom a dostanú silnú a výraznú príchuť „indického“.

Dance image sin memory of India’s Hungarian painter

The piece entitled Chitrakari (the painter) was inspired by the works of the Indian painter of Hungarian origins, however the im ages of the performance were not created with a paint brush but with the tools of dance. By setting up an ephemeral memorial these images salute her long and fertile artistic career. Elisabeth Brunner’s paintings come to life with the help of dance, and continue telling the story of the moment that their painter captured.

Elisabeth Brunner (1910-2001) and her mother – renowned figures of the Hungarian mystical painting tradition – arrived in India in 1930, where they immediately immersed themselves int he hustle and bustle of contemporary modern Indian art and intellectual life. Music, dance, literature and fine art, ancient and contemporary all found their place int he teeming cultural medium symbolising the extraordinary Indian force which honours and safeguards every tradition and accepts and assimilates new ones, making them characteristically „Indian”. This is how Elisabeth Brunner was able to become a recognised Indian painter.
